WRFG Labor Forum Program on Monday, Sept 21, 2015
On Monday, Sept. 21, The Labor Forum, 4-5pm on WRFG 89.3FM will speak with Atlanta activists about two issues of importance to working people and their families — the killing of unarmed men, women and children, particularly people of color, by police and the forced displacement and destruction of working class neighborhoods by gentrification and upscale development.
At 4:15pm, our guest will be Xavier Best with SCLC Youth and member of the DeKalb County Coalition for Justice and Police Accountability
The deaths of Kevin Davis, Anthony Hill and Troy Robinson at the hands of DeKalb police has produced citizen demands for real change in policing procedures and tactics. Xavier Best will talk about the groups that are involved and the actions being taken by the Coalition.
From 4:30-5pm, The Labor Forum audience will hear from the residents of Peoplestown, a historic neighborhood of the city’s Black working class, who are facing forced removal from their homes and their demolition under the guise of flood control. Tanya Washington, an affected homeowner will be among the activists fighting this power move by the city joining us in the studio. Ms. Mattie Jackson, the 93 year old community leader whose home is also scheduled to be torn down is expected to join the program by phone.
The Labor Forum can be heard on your radio at 89.3FM, also online at www.wrfg.org and on mobile devices using the WRFG App. The program is live streamed on The Labor Forum YouTube channel where a video and audio archive of programs can be found.
