WRFG Labor Forum program on Monday, Dec 28, 2015
During the first half hour of The Labor Forum on Monday, Dec. 28, co-hosts, Dianne Mathiowetz and Paul McLennan will review some of the memorable and important victories, interviews and events of 2015 that were aired on the program.
From 4:30-5pm, two of the leaders of the Boston school bus drivers, Steelworkers Local 8751, President Andre Francois and Financial Secretary Steve Gillis will discuss the lessons of their historic victory and over 2 year battle with the union-busting, multi-national corporation, Veolia.
Both of these union activists had been fired along with two others in the early days of the struggle in the fall of 2013.
The bus drivers union fought on multiple fronts – to rehire their leaders, to rebuff the daily attacks on their contract, to continue to support the parents, children and community against austerity cuts, to win the acquittal of false felony charges against a founder of the union, and to continue their solidarity with others in struggle elsewhere.
Francois and Gillis will enumerate the many gains of their recently ratified contract, including the rehiring of the four fired leaders.
The Labor Forum broadcasts every Monday from 4-5pm on WRFG 89.3FM in Atlanta.
