William Flannigan, president of Local 32 of the American Postal Workers Union, joins the Labor Forum, WRFG 89.3FM on Monday, Feb. 29 to report on the latest information about the campaign against outsourcing postal services to Staples. He will also describe the issues involved in the current contract negotiations. This interview will take place from 4:15 to 4:30pm.
The guest on the 4:30-5pm segment is Jeff Halper, Israeli author and activist, who will provide information about why Israel is an apartheid state and what workers need to know about the Palestinians’ resistance to occupation. The Labor Forum team will ask what is the relationship of the US to the ongoing violence in the region? What is the condition of Palestinian and Israeli workers? What is the path to justice and peace?

The Labor Forum on WRFG 89.3FM interviews education advocates, Allie McCullen of RiseUp and a Price HS parent on Monday, Feb. 22
about the so-called”turn around” plan being proposed by the Atlanta Public School Superintendant and others to close and/or privatize
several neighborhood schools.They will discuss why they object to this proposal and offer some alternative solutions.This important
discussion about how to achieve quality education for all Atlanta students will take place from 4:15-4:30.
At 4:30, members of the Turner Field Benefits Coalition, Alison Johnson and Jason Dozier, will outline the platform for development of the area
that will be presented to Georgia State University and its partner, Carter, a real estate development company.For decades, the neighborhoods
surrounding the current Braves stadium have seen their communities devastated by outside interests that have not taken into account the needs
and wishes of the residents. The Labor Forum audience will hear why the neighborhoods are organizing to change that scenario this time.

The Labor Forum on WRFG 89.3FM welcomes senior activists Jean Davis and Gloria Smith to discuss a growing social issue of grandparents raising their grandchildren on limited resources. As a result of military deployment, death and illness, incarceration or addiction, the number of retired workers who find themselves taking full-time care of young children to teen-agers is growing in metro Atlanta and across the country.From 4:15-4:30, they will discuss the challenges, problems and some solutions to this complex crisis impacting a segment of older workers.
At 4:30pm, Darrell Lane of the Bakery, Confectionery,Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers Union Local 42 will describe the struggle to save union jobs at Nabisco plants in the US. Mondelez International which owns the cookie and cracker-making brand has announced plans to close production lines in its Chicago facility and move the work to Salinas, Mexico. More than 600 jobs will be lost with devastating impact to workers and their families in Chicago. Negotiations begin this week on the national agreement with Mondelez and Atlanta-based Nabisco workers will be fighting to defend the wages and benefits of all BCTGM members.

In the last half hour of the program, students with Freedom University will explain the significance of the multi-campus actions taken on Feb. 1 to demand educational opportunity for all Georgia students.
