Among the many groups of low-wage workers who are organizing to gain living wages and respect for their labor are farm workers.
The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) has scored major victories for a largely immigrant work force through creative tactics and engaging consumers, students and faith organizations in their campaigns.
The Labor Forum is pleased to bring CIW members on our airwaves on Monday, March 13 from 4:30-4:55 to talk about their upcoming protest in Atlanta on March 17. With the public taking greater interest in where and how the food we eat is grown and handled, the deplorable conditions faced by the workers who plant and harvest the produce we consume is enlarging their support base.
Please tune in to The Labor Forum every Monday on WRFG 89.3FM from 4-5pm to hear the voice of workers fighting on all issues impacting working class and poor people..
For additional information, the website is http://www.wrfglaborforum.org
Also, on today’s program, we are going to learn more about Lucy Parsons, a founder of what is known worldwide as International Workers day or May Day.
And a heads up. The Spring Pledge Drive for WRFG begins on March 27 and ends Ap. 9. The goal is to raise $60,000 to keep WRFG on the air. Please consider the importance of an independent, community radio station and a program that speaks from the stand point of workers, especially now as hard fought rights and gains are under attack.
