Readers of the Atlanta Constitution last Sunday (Ap. 30) saw a full page ad with hundreds of names of UPS mechanics and others who service the cargo planes operated by the highly profitable package delivery company
The ad was directed to the corporation’s management, asserting their demand for contract negotiations to move forward including maintaining their full coverage of healthcare benefits.
This was followed by picketing at UPS stores in Atlanta by members of Teamsters #2727 and a demonstration outside the UPS stockholders’ meeting in Wilmington, Delaware on May 4.
On Monday,May 8, Tim Boyle, President of Teamsters Local 2727 will be calling into The Labor Forum at 4:30 to talk about the protracted negotiations and the firm stance the union is taking on retaining their healthcare plan. Please tune into WRFG 89.3FM for this timely interview.
At 4:15, members of the National Association of Letter Carriers #73 will be in the studio to talk about the annual canned food drive that postal workers conduct to aid their communities across the country.President Eric Sloan, Assistant Vice President Stephanie Matthews and Food Drive Coordinator Eileen Ford will explain the purpose and details of the 25th “Stamp Out Hunger” campaign taking place on Sat. May 13.
The Labor Forum airs every Monday from 4-5pm on WRFG 89.3FM with “Labor Headlines” and “This Week in Labor History” segments followed by interviews with local and national organizers and activists engaged in all the issues important to working and poor people.
