WRFG Labor Forum Program on Monday, May 22
The Labor Forum, a weekly program dedicated to bringing the issues,voices and solutions to problems facing working people around the world to the listeners of WRFG 89.3FM welcomes Amilcar Valencia to our airwaves during the 4:15-4:30 segment on Monday, May 22, 2017.
Amilcar will discuss the recent deaths of 27 year old Panamanian man, Jean Carlos Jimenez-Joseph at Stewart Detention center on May 15 and 58 year old Indian immigrant, Atul Kumar Bahibhai Patel on May 16, following his incarceration at the Atlanta City Detention Center, both while in ICE custody.
The escalation of ICE raids, arrests and deportations in the first four months of the Trump administration have created widespread fear among communities of color, whether documented or not.
Amilcar as a member of El Refugio, a hospitality house open to those visiting detainees at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Ga.can speak with personal knowledge of the cruel realities of US immigration policy.
At 4:30, Kali Akuno, a respected leader in the creation of a grass-roots centered decision-making for the city of Jackson, MS will discuss how this majority Black city is creating a model for economic and social justice.He will talk about the impact of the mayoral race on the issues facing workers and their families.
Akuno is a member of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement and a champion of self-determination for oppressed people and human rights for all.
