On Monday, June 19, at 4:15,co-host Dawn O’Neal will report live from the Atlanta City Council meeting where once again the chamber will be filled with residents demanding recognition of the needs of the Turner Field neighborhoods.The issue of displacement of communities of color and working class families by the rapid gentrification of in town areas and the lack of affordable housing is reaching a crisis point. Meanwhile, city agencies continue to grant tax breaks and huge subsidies to luxury apartment buildings, high-priced office buildings and a new football stadium and renovations to the Hawk’s arena.
From 4:30-4:55pm, Seri Poole, Shawanna Valson and Stanley Smalls, members of ATU #732 will update our listeners on the status of MARTA MOBILITY services under the new subcontractor, MV Transportation. Although an arbitrator has ruled that MARTA violated its contract with the union in outsourcing the mobilityservices and ordered the restoration of the work, MARTA is continuing to defy the ruling. Paratransit drivers will describe the current situation for the workers and their passengers.
