WRFG Labor Forum program on Monday, Aug 21

On Monday, Aug. 21, The Labor Forum hears from two Atlanta community leaders discussing the crisis of affordable housing, gentrification and displacement and homelessness, issues impacting thousands of poor and working people in the metro area.

Allison Johnson is a Peoplestown resident, active with the Housing Justice League. She will update the Labor Forum listeners on the struggle of the Dardens to stop the city from using “eminent domain” to take their home of many decades. The court hearing is Thursday, Aug. 24 at 9am in the Fulton County Courthouse. This interview is from 4:15-4:30 on WRFG 89.3FM.

Following Allison, the Labor Forum team will talk with Anita Beaty, long-time advocate for people without housing, healthcare, jobs and justice. As the director of the Task Force for the Homeless, she battled corporate interests and elected officials who sought to criminalize poverty rather than create equality of human rights. She will reflect on the closing of the emergency shelter at Peachtree and Pine and describe her intentions to continue the Artists Gallery that flourished at that location. Like the rooftop garden and the computer classes, the artist studio and gallery space at Peachtree-Pine recognized the humanity and creativity of those who were without shelter.

The Labor Forum airs every Monday from 4-5pm on WRFG 89.3FM. For additional information, please see http://www.wrfglaborforum.org
