WRFG Labor Forum on Monday, Sep11

The movement against all forms of white supremacy grew in strength and visibility following the Aug. 12 mass resistance to a neo-Nazi, KKK rally in Charlottesville, Va. and the murder of anti-racist activist, Heather Heyer by one of the bigots.

The public toppling of a confederate statue in Durham, NC., two days later jolted the nation and led to the removal of similar monuments around the country.

Large demonstrations have taken place from coast to coast connecting the hundreds of years of ¬†mass genocide of indigenous peoples, African slavery, KKK terrorism and Jim Crow segregation to today’s mass incarceration, income inequality and poverty wages, and police killings.

Takiyah Thompson is the person seen in the video that went viral placing the rope around the figure of a confederate soldier. Millions round the world have watched as the crowd tugged and the statue crumpled on the ground.
She will be interviewed on The Labor Forum at 4:30 on WRFG 89.3FM on Monday, Sept. 11, the day before she and others have a court hearing on felony and misdemeanors charges arising from the action.
Earlier in the program, at 4:15, Sara Patenaude, a co-founder of Hate Free Decatur, a newly-formed grassroots group organizing to have the confederate memorial in Decatur square removed, will speak about the march and rally held on Sunday, Sept. 10 and what is next for their campaign against white supremacy.
The Labor Forum airs every Monday from 4-5pm on WRFG 89.3FM and addresses all the issues of importance to working and poor people with the goal of advancing unity and solidarity to win worker power.
